Stepping Into the Unknown
As I write this I’m wanting to start this practice with the hope that it produces the change that I want to within our community. Putting the long-term vision into simple steps that each produce stress and frustration wane the motivation in those small steps. Each wave of stress, worry, and anxiety brings forth doubt, discouragement, and borderline despair.
I believe we each face something similar whenever we have an idea of how to improve ourself, which involve doing something different than we’re used to. Change involves changing what our brains and bodies are used to. This normal-routine actual combats against our desires for something different. We like the safety of the same old, same old. Change involves stepping out of that safety. This is why many fail to continue making a change when starting it, such as exercise, food, alcohol, etc.
Is there something that can help me when I’m stepping into the unknown? When I face the uncertainty and doubt it’s not unexpected. It’s something I know that is going to come up prior. This makes it predictable, which can provide safety to me. Knowing my foe/enemies and their tendencies helps me plan accordingly. As I continue becoming comfortable with the uncomfortable, I start to see these aspects different. Foes and enemies (aka my anxiety, doubt, uncertainty) start to become something I have more empathy towards as I have more empathy with myself.
I encourage you to step into the unknown so we can get to that place that we envision.
Something else to consider is the fact that we are not alone in our unknown. I will explore that more in the next blog.
